Fingerless mittens

The Ditje is a coarse pair of fingerless mittens, made of 60% Dutch wool, 20% merino and 20% alpaca. This mix of fibers gives Ditje a unique mix of properties: the Dutch wool has a tougher appearance, which is then softened by the addition of alpaca and merino.

The special properties of Dutch wool and alpaca

Wool from Dutch sheep is not often seen in clothing production, even within the Netherlands. Dutch wool is characterized by a tougher appearance due to its coarser fibers and hence is seen as too rough and itchy to wear against the skin. This view has led to the devaluation of Dutch wool and the disappearance of the Dutch wool industry altogether. 

In our products, we utilize this overlooked local resource by looking for varieties with a lower itch factor as well as combining our Dutch wool with other fibers like merino and alpaca. This mix of fibers allows our products to have the traditional appearance of Dutch wool while adding a level of softness.

Additionally alpaca is hypoallergenic and has antibacterial properties so garments hardly need to be washed; airing them out is often more than enough. This way your favorite sweater will last for generations.

 Choose your color and size

You can choose from four colors for this sweater: dark blue, off white, taupe and sand. The sand and off white are the natural color of the Dutch wool and not dyed. All yarns of our synthetic colors are washed and dyed according to the GOTS standard. This means that the amount of harmful chemicals has been reduced to a minimum.

The Ditje are 20 cm long and 7 cm wide. These mittens cover your hands from just above the knuckles to about half down the forearm.

 Made to order

We work according to the made-to-order principle. This means that we will only start producing your item after you have placed your order. We usually knit the mittens within a week. You can also indicate your wishes if, for example, you want the item to be made slightly shorter or longer.
