Dorus

The Dorus is a robust unisex beanie that is fully ribbed for a comfortable fit. This hat is made from a mix of local Dutch wool with soft alpaca and merino. This mix of fibers gives the Dorus a unique mix of properties: the Dutch wool has a tougher appearance, which is then softened by the addition of alpaca and merino.

All our products are developed and knitted in our mini factory in Baambrugge.

The special properties of Dutch wool and alpaca

Wool from Dutch sheep is not often seen in clothing production, even within the Netherlands. Dutch wool is characterized by a tougher appearance due to its coarser fibers and hence is seen as too rough and itchy to wear against the skin. This view has led to the devaluation of Dutch wool and the disappearance of the Dutch wool industry altogether. 

In our products, we utilize this overlooked local resource by looking for varieties with a lower itch factor as well as combining our Dutch wool with other fibers like merino and alpaca. This mix of fibers allows our products to have the traditional appearance of Dutch wool while adding a level of softness.

Additionally alpaca is hypoallergenic and has antibacterial properties so garments hardly need to be washed; airing them out is often more than enough. This way your favorite sweater will last for generations.

 Made to order

You can choose from four colors for this sweater: dark blue, off white, taupe and sand. The sand and off-white are the natural color of the Dutch wool and not dyed. All yarns of our synthetic colors are washed and dyed according to the GOTS standard. This means that the amount of harmful chemicals is kept to a minimum.

The Lars is 29 cm long including the folded edge of 8 cm. When the edge is folded over, the total length of the hat is 20 cm. The width is 18 cm.

 Made to order

We work according to the made-to-order principle. This means that we will only start producing your item after you have placed your order. We usually knit the hat within a week and we promise you: it is worth the wait. And the nice thing about this: you can also indicate your wishes if, for example, you want the item to be made slightly shorter or longer.
