The Jaap is an intricately knitted dog sweater with a chevron motif along the back. This robust dog sweater is made from local Dutch wool mixed with soft alpaca and merino and has a ribbed neck and sides for a comfortable yet secure fit. The mix of fibers gives the Jaap a unique mix of properties: the Dutch wool offers a tougher appearance, which is then softened by the addition of alpaca and merino.

The special properties of Dutch wool

Wool from Dutch sheep is not often seen in clothing production, even within the Netherlands. Dutch wool is characterized by a tougher appearance due to its coarser fibers and hence is seen as too rough and itchy to wear against the skin. This view has led to the devaluation of Dutch wool and the disappearance of the Dutch wool industry altogether. 

In our products, we utilize this overlooked local resource by looking for varieties with a lower itch factor as well as combining our Dutch wool with other fibers like merino and alpaca. This mix of fibers allows our products to have the traditional appearance of Dutch wool while adding a level of softness.

Additionally alpaca is hypoallergenic and has antibacterial properties so garments hardly need to be washed; airing them out is often more than enough. This way your favorite sweater will last for generations.

 Choose your color and size

The Jaap is available in sizes XS-XXL. Measure your pet's back length, chest circumference and neck circumference to find the best size. In the comments of your order you can indicate your pet's exact size so that we can be sure that the final garment fits your dog.

 Made to order

We work according to the made-to-order principle. This means that we will only start producing your item after you have placed your order. The delivery time is 2-4 weeks. But we promise: it's worth the wait. And the nice thing about this: you can also indicate your wishes if, for example, you want the item to be made slightly shorter or longer.
